The Dutch Onion

The giant Dutch Allium bulbs that we planted last fall were nearly as large as a baseball. We hardly knew what to expect from the lowly onions that went into the ground. Now the cantaloupe-sized violet umbels are finally in full show nearly nine weeks after the first post when the leaves sprouted from the ground. Some things are worth the wait.
